Story

The building is situated in the central part of the city at the corner of Hrytska Chubaia and Konyskoho streets. It was erected at the beginning of the twentieth century following a design by architect Ivan Levynskyi, which was approved by the city magistrate on September 24, 1905 (ДАЛО 2/2/2254:13-22), for Józef and Aleksander Elster. The building shares a joint design with the neighboring house at No. 3. According to a submission dated August 28, 1905, Józef and Aleksander received permission on September 24, 1905, to construct a three-story building (ДАЛО, p. 6-7). The Elsters were granted an occupancy permit on October 17, 1906; at the same time, the magistrate certified that the house was completed on October 3, 1906 (ДАЛО, p. 12).

In the 1930s, the building belonged to Bronisława Haudek (Księga adresowa, 1935–1936). Today, the building remains in residential use, with apartments located on the first through third floors.

Architecture

This residential tenement house was erected in 1906 at the corner of Hrytska Chubaia and Konyskoho streets. Designed in the Secessionist style, it is a three-story, brick, and plastered structure. The principal elevation is designed asymmetrically, employing the principle of atectonic composition, where the amount of decoration increases with height. The wall surfaces of the first and second floors are decorated with simple "french" rustication, which serves as a backdrop for the richly decorated entrance portal featuring wrought iron doors and a decorative transom window. On the second and third floors, the façade is articulated with pilasters decorated with profiled floral ornaments, cartouches, and ribbons. The building also features balconies with openwork grilles supported by plasterwork or metal brackets. Inset plasterwork panels are located beneath the third-floor windows, while colored majolica tiles are placed above them. A wide frieze with a decorative plaster texture runs between all the windows on the third floor.

The building is an Architectural monument of local significance (ref. no. M-220)
