Vul. Lysenka, 7 – residential building ID: 1536

Former address: ul. Kurkowa 7 (conscription no. 572 4/4). In the 1890s, a three-story residential building was constructed on the site of a former tavern. The tenement house once accommodated Filip Thun's (known as Katz) grocery store. In 1929, the building housed the medical practice of Samuel Bergner and Mund's grocery store.

Story

In 1769, architect Piotr Polejowski purchased the plot between present-day Vynnychenka and Hutsulska streets from the monastery of the Carmelite Sisters. Following Polejowski's death in 1776, his widow sold the plot to Johann Franek, a burgher who built a tavern further back on the property. It featured a dance hall called "The Veteran's Cave" (Pol. Weteranisze Hohe) and existed in the courtyard of the current building until the mid-nineteenth century. On the 1844 map of Lviv and its suburbs, a L-shaped building is visible deep within the plot, with a stream flowing from it parallel to the street. Between 1877 and 1884, the premises of the former "Veteran's Cave" were occupied by the "Sokół" Polish Gymnastic Society.

Architecture

The three-story building was constructed in the Late Classicist style in the mid-nineteenth century. The central section of the principal elevation terminates in a triangular pediment, which features a decorative relief within its tympanum. Positioned above the entrance gate that opens into a large courtyard is a balcony with a cast-iron latticework balustrade, supported by two brackets ornamented with stylized poppy leaves. Situated deep within the courtyard is a three-story annex building constructed in the 1890s; its façade is executed in the style of Eclectic Historicism with restrained decoration.
