Vul. Pekarska, 11 – residential building ID: 1313

A  five-story building constructed at the beginning of the twentieth century.

Story

In the late nineteenth century, a Neorenaissance villa-palazzetto belonging to the bookseller and publisher Franz Heinrich Richter stood in the depth of the plot. In 1899, it was acquired by Dawid Mazur — a well-known Lviv photographer, member of the "Society for the Development and Embellishment of the City", and one of the initiators of the General National Exhibition of 1894. At his request, architect Karel Boublík remodeled the villa to accommodate a photo studio and laboratory. However, as early as 1911, he sold the villa along with the land to the printer Kazimierz Stanisław Jakubowski and relocated his photo studio to pl. Halytska. Jakubowski bought the property for the land rather than the villa, so he quickly dismantled the small palace and constructed a five-story residential townhouse on the cleared site, which also housed a printing shop in addition to residential apartments.

Architecture

This is a mid-block, five-story building. The principal elevation is symmetrical and seven-bay. Modernized Historicist forms are incorporated into its design. The level of the fourth floor is separated from the rest of the façade by a cornice, and the top is finished with a curvilinear shape. The fifth floor is not visible from the street, as its windows face only the inner courtyard. Industrial premises of varying heights (up to 6 stories) were built in the depth of the plot. The façade of the building is adorned with 5 balconies featuring stone balustrades.
