The building of the former Technological Institute (1907–1909, architect Tadeusz Obmiński). The building was erected for the so-called Technological Institute — an institution whose function was to disseminate professional knowledge among industrialists and artisans in order to improve product quality and manufacturers' qualifications. The architectural style is Secession. Today (as of 2009), the building is used as an academic building of the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy.
Architecture
The building features a complex, asymmetrical floor plan dictated by the specific dimensions and layout of the plot on which it was built. Two façades are set at an angle to each other, following the curve of vul. Nyzhankivskoho, from which an elongated building block extends into the interior of the block.
The building is three stories tall with a semi-basement floor, masonry-built from brick, and plastered. Vertical divisions predominate in the façade composition. The semi-basement and first floor are finished with heavy rustication. Decorative ceramic tile inserts are placed above the top-floor windows. Two concrete sculptures depicting a blacksmith and a carpenter are set upon the attic wall.
The interior layout is based on a double-loaded corridor system. In the interior, the assembly hall draws particular attention, decorated with pilasters and polychrome painting. An authentic Secessionist stained-glass window is preserved in the staircase.
