Vul. Krymska site – former swimming bath ID: 1967
A small swimming bath facility named "Zelene Oko", which featured a beach and a wooden bathhouse (no longer exists), was located in a ravine below Snopkivskyi Park between current-day Tarnavskoho and Krymska streets. The facility was constructed according to a 1934 design by architect Rudolf Polt and a 1935 project by Rudolf Rimer, who provided supplementary plans. "Zelene Oko" featured two ponds — which still exist today — formed by a spring flowing from beneath Snopkiv Hill.
Story
The swimming bath known as "Zelene Oko," with its beach and wooden building, was situated in a ravine below Snopkivskyi Park between present-day Tarnavskoho and Krymska streets. It comprised two interconnected ponds (which remain today) fed by a spring originating from under Snopkiv Hill. In the first third of the twentieth century, these small bodies of water were landscaped in conjunction with the construction of the baths (Львів, 1999, 331). The "Zelene Oko" facility was built following a 1934 design by architect Rudolf Polt, with an additional project by Rudolf Rimer approved by the magistrate on August 5, 1935 (ДАЛО 2/1/4187:47, 48). The bathhouse and the ponds were owned by the Małuszyński family, who also owned a small Empire-style palace at vul. Zelena 102 (Lwów, 2001, 199).
Architecture
The "Zelene Oko" bathhouse was erected in 1935 using wooden construction. The building has not survived to the present day. It was a single-story structure, though one section rose to two stories. A terrace was situated above the first floor, accessed by external staircases on either side. The State Archives of the Lviv Region houses the design plans used for the construction of the baths (ДАЛО 2/1/4187:47, 48). The two ponds in the ravine below Snopkivskyi Park are still extant.People
