Vul. Horodotska – cinema (no longer in operation) ID: 1934

A building on present-day vul. Horodotska was home to a cinema that operated under a succession of names and owners: "Splendid" (1933–1935), "Słońce" (1935–1938), and "Gloria" (1938–1942). In late 1942, the building was destroyed by fire.

Story

In 1933, the "Splendid" cinema began operating at ul. Bogdanówka 2 (now vul. Horodotska; this building burned down during World War II). It was located along ul. Podkolejowa (Kocheharska), north of the current building at vul. Horodotska 128. Its owners were Marek Stark and his wife, Salomea Seife.

In 1935, the cinema underwent a thorough reconstruction and was renamed "Słońce". The owners continued to be the couple Marek Stark and Salomea Seife. They experienced friction with neighbors who complained about disturbances near the cinema and other issues.

In 1937–1938, the cinema premises were significantly expanded, and on December 14, 1938, the renovated 267-seat cinema opened under the new name "Gloria". The owners of the "Gloria" cinema were Władysław Baar, his wife Zofia Baar, and Laura Tenenbaum. While the cinema was situated on the city's outskirts, its low ticket prices made it quite popular among local residents.

The cinema remained in operation until at least October 1942. The building was ultimately burned down.
