Vul. Dudaieva, 8 – former cinema (no longer in operation) ID: 1768

The "Teatr Swietlny Sokola Macierzy" cinema operated within the building of the Polish "Sokół" Sports and Gymnastics Society at what is now vul. Dzh. Dudaieva 8 between 1913 and 1939. All proceeds from its activities were dedicated to the needs of the society.

Story

Founded in Lviv in 1867, the "Sokół" society was a center for the gymnastics, sports, and patriotic education of the Polish population.

The society's own building at ul. Zimorowicza 8 (now vul. Dzh. Dudaieva) was constructed in 1884 according to a design by architect Władysław Halicki. This was achieved through the support and personal financial assistance of Jan Dobrzański, who served as the society's president for many years (1871–1886). To expand the premises, an adjacent urban site at ul. Sokoła 7 (now vul. Kovzhuna) was purchased in 1898. Architect Alfred Kamienobrodzki carried out the reconstruction and merged this building with the "Sokół" headquarters.

The “Teatr Swietlny Sokola Macierzy” opened in September 1913. Screenings typically began at 4:00 PM, and on Sundays and holidays, they could run until 11:00 PM. All profits from the cinema were allocated to the "Sokół" society. It is likely that the cinema did not play a significant role in the city's cultural life, as there were no mentions of it in contemporary guidebooks or the press.

In 1939, the "Sokół" society was disbanded by the Soviet authorities, and the cinema ceased to exist.
