Vul. Doroshenka, 1 – residential building ID: 995

This residential building (dating from the 1850s) is part of the street's terraced development. In 1880, following a reconstruction design by architect Zygmunt Kędzierski, a third floor was added for the owner at the time, Ozjasz Horowitz. The design for the first-floor storefront portals was executed by architect Michał Ulam in 1906, and later by architect Daniel Kalmus in 1936.

Architecture

The building was constructed in the Classicist style. It is a three-story, brick, and plastered structure, nearly rectangular in plan. The interior layout is of a mixed type. The principal elevation faces the building line of vul. Doroshenka, it is symmetrical, featuring two side protruding wall sections. These side protrusions are vertically emphasized at the level of the second and third floors by pilasters of the Corinthian order. The central-symmetrical composition of the principal elevation is somewhat offset by the entrance gate, which is shifted to the right. The first floor has been significantly altered by reconstructions and renovations and is treated as a commercial space. The second and third floors are designated for residential use. The second-floor windows are framed on both sides by pilasters of the Ionic order and are topped in the central section by linear pediments, while the side sections feature segmental and triangular pediments. Beneath the pediments are plasterwork female heads decorated on both sides with flower garlands. Below the second-floor windows of the central section are insets with profiled floral ornaments, while the windows of the side sections feature balusters. The third-floor windows have profiled trimming, with volute shelves beneath them. The side sections of the building are topped by a frieze, an architrave, and a profiled cornice with egg-and-dart and dentils; the central section features an identical cornice.
